Add VAT to a net amount, remove VAT from a gross total, or split an inclusive price into net plus VAT. Fast, free, and all in your browser.
Use Add VAT when you have a net price and want the VAT amount plus gross total. Use Remove VAT or Split Gross Total when you only know the VAT-inclusive price and need to break it down into net and VAT portions.
To add VAT, multiply the net amount by the VAT rate, then add that VAT amount back to the original price. Example: if your net price is £100 and VAT is 20%, the VAT is £20 and the gross total is £120.
To remove VAT from an inclusive price, divide the gross amount by 1 plus the VAT rate as a decimal. Example: £120 including 20% VAT becomes £100 net and £20 VAT.
The standard UK VAT rate is commonly 20%, but reduced or zero rates exist in some cases. This calculator also works for custom tax percentages outside the UK, so you can use it for GST or sales-tax style calculations too.
Most invoices round VAT to two decimal places. This calculator follows standard currency rounding so the output is practical for quotes, invoices, and quick checks before sending figures to accounting software.
