An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a numerical label assigned to every device connected to the internet. Your public IP is the address your internet service provider assigns to your home or office connection β it's what websites and servers see when you connect to them.
IPv4 addresses look like 93.184.216.34 β four numbers between 0β255 separated by dots. IPv6 is a newer format like 2001:0db8::8a2e:7334, designed to handle the explosion of internet-connected devices. This tool shows your IPv4 address.
IP geolocation is approximate. It's based on data registered by your ISP, not GPS. VPNs show the exit node location instead of your real location. Accuracy is typically within 50β200 km.
Any website you visit can see your public IP. It can approximate your location and identify your ISP but rarely reveals your precise address. A VPN masks your real IP from websites.
